Everyone's life can get pretty hectic and crazy sometimes. Homework, vacation, personal life... If you feel like you just need a break from running a site, your best bet is to go on a Hiatus. What is a hiatus? It's a short break or vacation. There are two types of hiatuses; an Open Hiatus or Closed Hiatus. An Open Hiatus is when you don't update, but the content is still there for people to use. A Closed Hiatus is when guests can't view content, just a nice message that says "On Hiatus".

How long should your hiatus be? It shouldn't be more than a 2 month hiatus otherwise no one would remember your site and visit! I also recommend that you stay on an Open Hiatus. This allows everyone to enjoy the site regularly except you don't update. Also be sure to make a news post clearly stating that you are on a hiatus and include a rough estimate of how long it will be. E-mail and alert all of your affiliates or they may remove you for inactiveness!

However, if you do choose to have a Closed Hiatus, be sure to keep a list of your affiliates and partners, and a nice chatbox so people know you're alive! xD Be sure to drop a message once a while to let people know that you actually will eventually make your site off hiatus!

...And now that you know almost all the things to a hiatus, you should make a surprise for your guests when your hiatus is over... like a secret project! It could be graphics, tutorials, a new site layout, anything you can think of! This will draw people to visit your site more and be happy that they had to wait so long for a cool thing to be added! :D

I hope that this guide helped you put your site on hiatus! If you have any questions, comments, corrections, or concerns, just e-mail me: aqua.neo.admin@gmail.com.
